![]() I thought back to all the things I have read that cause these engine to run poorly over time. My gas mileage was noticeably worse than with my old motor! It would struggle to make it up little hills without having to give it lots of gas. ![]() The higher the RPM's would go, the worse the engine would run. It seemed to tremble through the shift points and more than anything the top end power was GONE! On the interstate, my truck would really begin to struggle at 65 mph and at 80 mph the engine would seem like it was losing power and the truck would do this weird intermittent jerking thing. I initially thought my transmission was finally dying because when it needed to shift it was not "firm" like before. It idled fine but acceleration was diminished and the engine seemed to tremble a little as the RPM's went up. I needed to change my oil before a trip the next day so I grabbed my usual oil & the prescribed filter from my local Walmart. Then came my first oil change at 3,000 miles. I was so happy with my new setup that I have been driving the crap out my truck. The new motor fired right up with no problems & behaved just like a new motor should. The point I am trying to make here is that my setup is as close to a brand new motor as you could possibly get. New hoses (where needed), new PCV valve & grommet, I even blasted & painted the oil pan blue to match the truck! Anyway, I didn't skip anything & the list of parts goes on and on. Disassembled, sand blasted & painted the valve covers. ![]() I completely disassembled the intake & cleaned the EGR tube, butterflies. Anything off the old motor that had oil on it was cleaned in an industrial parts cleaner until it was spotless. I paid very close attention to every detail. I really took my time putting the new motor in. A couple months ago I put a new long block in my 99 Trooper.
